Study Overview

Board members face an increasingly complex web of issues to address and manage, ranging from the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a renewed focus on social justice issues, to rising cyber and climate risks. Taken together, these topics fall under the increasingly important umbrella of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. While challenging to deal with, boards have a compelling opportunity to rise to the occasion in these areas by finding meaningful ways to mitigate risk and build organizational resilience.

To assess where boards currently stand, we are pleased to announce the launch of our 2021 ESG in the Boardroom Pulse Survey, which is now open for participation. This survey is designed to provide insights on emerging boardroom roles and policies on a wide range of topics, including:

• Board governance, with a focus on diversity and representation;
• Oversight of climate-related issues and policies;
• The role of the board in overseeing mitigation of cyber risks; and
• Prioritization of human capital strategies, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

• What type of data does this study collect?
  This study includes questions on boardroom policies for ESG issues and topics, including board governance, oversight of climate policies, the board’s role in mitigating cyber risks, and human capital strategies with a focus on DEI.
• What is the geographical scope of the study?
  The study will provide insights for the North America region.
• How long does the questionnaire take to complete?
  The time it takes to complete the questionnaire may vary, but we estimate it will take around 20 minutes. We always encourage clients to review study questionnaires in advance of completing a study to determine where you might need to confer with a colleague about before entering data online.
• When does this survey close?
  Submissions for the 2021 ESG Pulse Survey are due by July 23, 2021.
• When will results be available?
  We will publish the study results in early July.
• Who is best suited to complete this study?
  In our experience, this study is best completed by a member of the c-suite (CHRO, CFO, COO, CEO, etc.).
• Will my answers remain confidential?
  Yes, all individual responses will remain confidential. Additionally, study results will only be presented in an aggregate fashion without specific attribution to any company. The report will include a list of all participants by company name.
